The votes for the most beautiful Åland postage stamp in 2019 have been counted and the vote is now closed. Last year’s winning stamp series, Sailing ships, had to give way. The series of woodpeckers soon proved to be the favourite of many voters, overwhelmingly surpassing the other 11 postage stamp issues.
Animals are popular motifs, so even in this year’s vote, as it was convincingly won by the series of franking labels featuring woodpeckers, illustrated by Swedish nature and animal painter Bo Lundwall. Bo’s Åland bird and animal stamp motifs are highly appreciated by stamp collectors, and his stamp booklet featuring loons and grebes was chosen as the most beautiful stamp issue of the year already in 2013.
Artist Allan Palmer’s lovely series of sailing ships, in 2019 featuring sailing ships Vineta and Parma, had to settle for second place. The Harvest Festival stamp booklet issued in September 2019 came in third place. The photos for the festival stamps were shot by photographer Therese Andersson.
We thank everyone who took part in the vote. Among all who cast their vote, we have raffled off and posted five prizes to the winners in Finland, Norway, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands.
